Harrisburg 鈥 Dr. H. Fred Walker will resign as president of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, effective Friday (March 30).

Dr. Walker informed the Board of Governors of Pennsylvania鈥檚 State System of Higher Education of his decision today. He has served as Edinboro鈥檚 president since July 2016.
鈥淲e thank Dr. Walker for his service to Edinboro University over the past two years,鈥 said State System Interim Chancellor Dr. Karen M. Whitney. 鈥淚 respect his decision and wish him well.鈥
Dr. Michael J. Hannan, the university鈥檚 provost and vice president for academic and student affairs, will serve as acting president at Edinboro following Dr. Walker鈥檚 departure and pending further action by the Board, which is responsible for hiring the presidents of the 14 State System universities.
鈥淲e are pleased that Dr. Hannan is both willing and well prepared to lead Edinboro,鈥 Dr. Whitney said. 鈥淚t is my intention to recommend that he be named interim president to ensure stable, consistent leadership for the univesity.鈥
Dr. Hannan has been at Edinboro for almost 30 years, first joining the faculty in 1988. He later served for eight years as chair of the Department of Business and Economics before being appointed associate dean of the College of Arts & Sciences and the School of Science, Management & Technology. He was the founding dean of Edinboro鈥檚 School of Business and was interim provost for two years before being named to his current position.
